My Happy Place

I have never considered myself an athlete, or anything even resembling one.  I was always the bookworm/ couch potato.  Now that I am on moderate duty where exercise is concerned I am starting to think that maybe, just maybe I have become an athlete in my own right…or mind anyway.

I am feeling extremely out of sorts from the “forced downtime” that I have had lately.  For the past three or four years I have been diligent about working out at least three or four times per week.  This time of year that number usually escalates to five or six times per week.  I can count on one hand the number of times that I have worked out in the past MONTH!  I am at a loss.  On the days that I don’t have physical therapy I find myself seriously missing my workouts.  Not only the workouts but my friends at the gym too!  The lack of physical exercise has messed with my sleep as well.  Honestly, I cannot wait to get back to a full workout schedule….did I say that?  Yes I did!!!

Lately all I want to do is curl up with a good book.  This problem with my neck is really taking it’s toll on my psyche.  Sara, my Physical Therapist has told me that I am ok to run or ride a bike.  I have tried running a couple of times on both the sidewalk and the treadmill.  Both times felt sort of okay while I was doing it but afterwards the pain returned in a hurry.  I had planned to push through and run the “Red Dress Run” this weekend but I have changed my mind.  As much as I want to run a race with pacers (pacers keep to specified speeds ie; 10 minute mile, 8 minute mile, etc. and they are unheard of for a 5K!) I want to get my neck in order even more.  The jarring motion that happens while running is not helping in this endeavor.  While there is less jarring on a bike, just the thought of riding a street bike and holding my head up brings tears to my eyes.  I need to find a spin class pronto!  (….and maybe a hot tub!)

If you follow me on facebook then you know that Tuesday was “National Chocolate Day”.  I believe that EVERY day should be national chocolate day but maybe that’s just me.  I myself celebrated with a Reeses!  I have not had one of these in such a long time, it was an emotional reunion.
